Just a quick note that with less than four days from start time, WordCamp Miami is officially sold out! We want to thank all of those who purchased tickets, and we promise to make it a fun and educational event for everyone.

While we will be thanking alot of people in the coming days and on the day of the event, we wanted to thank our sponsors:

Without these sponsors, ticket prices would be much higher to cover the cost of the venue, breakfast, lunch, audio/visual equipment, fprinting, conference materials, wifi, insurance, t-shirts, and other items/expenses that arose.

Secondly, we want to thank all of those who got the word out regarding WordCamp. Too many to mention here, but you know who you are.

Finally, we want to thank all our speakers… especially those coming in from out of town. Without your efforts, there wouldn’t be much of a WordCamp to come and see.

We are proud to have Stephanie Rosenblatt speaking at this year’s WordCamp Miami.

Stephanie is home-grown South Florida web developer who has worked in the industry for seven years. She spent the last three years at the Miami Herald before recently transitioning to University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine to work on the complete reconstruction of their websites. When her friends can’t find her, they’d put money on the bet that she’s hiding away at night, excitedly working on her latest Wordpress contract. She bounces back and forth between client- and server-side customization using PHP, MySQL, Flash and AJAX/Javacript. But if she’s not coding, she’s probably talking about music, dancing to music or shooting photgraphy at a concert.

Stephanie will be handling on our key topics – a href=”http://wordcampmia.com/program”>How to Create a Wordpress Blog. This presentation is especially for beginners.

Please also check out our other speakers.

Frequently, many people who have never been to a WordCamp before might think it’s strictly for those who work and code with Wordpress. And you really can’t blame them – the name of event is, after all, WordCamp. But many WordCamps have topics and even entire tracks devoted to beginners and even those who write and blog no matter WHAT platform they choose.

WordCamp Miami is no other. If you don’t want to hear alot of coding talk, developer lingo, or crazy tech terms then GOOD NEWS. You don’t have to. Here is some of the more non-Wordpress topics we are featured at this year’s WordCamp (or if it Wordpress related, directed so that anyone can gain value from the subject):

Jim Turner
From Daddy Blogger to Business Blogger

Michael Froomkin
Legal Side of Running a Blog

Jess Jurick
Finding Your Blogging Voice

Angie Moncada
Writing for a Professional Blog

Jim Gilbert
Engaging and Driving Traffic w/ Blogs

Stephanie Rosenblatt
Creating your own WordPress Blog

Pete Bernardo
Great Plugins for Your Next Client Project

So are you aren’t a Wordpress guru? Maybe not even interested in Wordpress and use another platform (shocking, but ok). Then you’ll definitely get something from the event as you can see (not to mention networking with developers who might be a valuable resource).

See you at WordCamp!

We are proud to have Roger Theriault speaking at this year’s WordCamp Miami.

Roger is a software developer, with broad experience and 25 years of experience developing and supporting client-server, web, and wireless applications. Roger also has an Executive MBA from the University of Miami. He helped set up and organize Motorola’s first public website, and introduced and created web content management in the early web days. Roger currently freelances for True/Slant, where he has developed many frontend and backend enhancements to WordPress MU for aggregation, curation, and social capabilities.

True/Slant is an original-content news network of more than 200 recruited Contributors. In addition to publishing to their own sites, Contributor content flows to “communal pools” throughout the True/Slant network. Content moves automatically and via editorial selection: The automations help surface subjects of interest; from there, Editors can drag and drop stories from across the network to promote what warrants it, simply, throughout the day. Building on Wordpress gave us simple, powerful tools for Contributors; Extending Mu helped us provide frictionless publishing and promotion across a network of quality content, helps community members find what’s relevant, helps our Contributors build audience, and helps our Network Programmers create a lively site with minimal effort.
