FAQ

Why is there a registration fee?

To cover the overhead of lunch, t-shirts, and additional goodies that donations alone do not cover. This is a not-for-profit event. All proceeds not directly used for the event will be donated directly to the WordPress Foundation, which is the 501(c)3 non-profit organization that makes things like WordPress and WordCamp possible.

What do I get with my ticket?

You get entry into the event on Saturday, plus any public after-parties on Saturday evening. You will also receive a t-shirt, swag bag, lunch tickets, and other surprise goodies from some of our sponsors.

How much do tickets cost?

Tickets cost $30 and are currently on sale.

Where is WordCamp Miami being held?

The WordCamp Miami 2010 venue has been graciously donated by the University of Miami School of Communications. We cannot thank them enough for making room for us.

Is WordCamp the same as BarCamp?

No, these are separate events. In 2009, there was an open WordPress forum at BarCamp but wasn’t organized like an official WordCamp (see WordCamp.org). This year’s WordCamp is comparable to the ones that have been happening around the country for a few years. WordCamp’s format is to bring in professional speakers with prepared presentations, organized for maximum benefit to the attendees.

Will there be any parties?

There will be a dinner for speakers on Friday evening, and an after-party on Saturday evening.

Will there be Wifi at the event?

Currently we are planning to have Wifi available for the general public, but this might change due to limitations (we don’t have a say on the wifi). For now, assume you won’t have free internet and bring your own.

Will there be power strips/cords available?

No, not available to the public. And no guarantee what power is available at the event either. Bring your own power cords and strips.

Capacity

We have about a 300 person capacity. We’ve been told more room can be made to accomodate more people, but 300 is the magic mark.
